Original title: Bal Harbour
Nestled at the northern tip of Miami Beach, Bal Harbour Village is a gem of cultural pleasures and discoveries, and one of the most exclusive enclaves on the Eastern seaboard. Major hotels, prestige addresses and gourmet restaurants stand alongside Bal Harbour Shops, an iconic retail space that brings together the world’s greatest designers. In just a few hours, we flew over waves and palm trees to reach the centre of the original American dream.
VACATION WITH ALL THE COMFORTS OF HOME
The hotels are offering experiences at varying price points. The St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort opened its doors in 2012 and is one of only two resorts in Miami to receive a Forbes Travel Guide five-star rating. Its 216 rooms are spread over three magnificent glass towers. Lush gardens, a white sandy beach, spacious spa, gourmet restaurants and an impressive art collection enhanced our stay at the St. Regis.
In the vibrant Miami spirit, the Ritz-Carlton offers its lucky guests absolute privacy: two vast suites per floor, private terraces, personal entrances and semi-private elevators. All the majesty one expects from the Ritz, in a more intimate, contemporary setting.
The iconic Sea View Hotel is home to one of the city’s very first Olympic-size pools. Its 45 rooms give families space to relax and enjoy peace of mind. Order a milkshake from the snack bar and take in the hotel’s casual, retro vibe.
Overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway, the Quarzo Boutique Hotel is the ideal spot for a family vacation, thanks to its apartment suites with fully equipped kitchens and inviting poolside cabanas—white, blue, and airy.
BAL HARBOUR FASHION MECCA
A temple of fashion and jewellery, Bal Harbour Shops is an extraordinary open-air shopping plaza that hosts some 100 iconic brands, notably the Chanel boutique, directly inspired by Coco Chanel’s New York City apartment. You can also find the likes of Oscar De La Renta, Balenciaga, Dior, Gucci, Prada, Saint Laurent, Versace, Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana, Harry Winston, and Ferragamo. Filled with lush vegetation and fantastic fountains and ponds, this cathedral to the joys of fashion is currently under expansion and will soon welcome the first Barneys New York in Florida. The verdict is very simple: any stay in Miami must include a visit to Bal Harbour Shops.
DINNER IS SERVED!
Bal Harbour is full of restaurants offering exciting, memorable culinary adventures. In addition to sampling several outstanding hotel dining rooms during our stay, we took advantage of the winning combination of shopping and fine dining at Bal Harbour Shops, with dinners at Makoto and Le Zoo, as well as a delicious lunch at Carpaccio. Another memorable visit was to Vasalissa Chocolatier, where we enjoyed delectable treats served in an elegant setting.
