Bathroom evolution

Bui Optométriste

THE BATHROOM HAS NOT ESCAPED THE WINDS OF CHANGE. GONE IS THE LITTLE SPOT, THE UNLOVED ROOM VISITED ONLY BY NECESSITY. THIS SPACE HAS BECOME AN INDISPENSABLE FIXTURE OF THE HOUSE, BETTER YET, A SANCTUARY OF CALM, BEAUTY AND PLEASURE.

Antoniolupi offers complete solutions for the bathroom. This Italian manufacturer produces bathtubs, sinks, mirrors and showers (except basins), and also storage furniture. Here, the Piana line: fixtures floating in space. This trend is favoured for its clean look and easy maintenance. • Exclusively at Blan, 5324 Royalmount, Montréal 514 737 6700, blandemontreal.ca

The Relais collection from Italian ceramic manufacturer Globo comprises a freestanding bathtub in Pietraluce (a composite material), woodframe backlit mirrors (great!) and a vanity with curved legs sporting a steel black finish. For a neo-retro look, this ensuite bathroom works beautifully. • Distributed by PPP Distribution 450 581 9780

03 The Morphing collection, from Zucchetti.Kos, is in contention for the 2011 ADI Design Index Award (the company holds three awards already) thanks to an inspired design of Ludovica and Roberto Palomba. The shower, branded ‘Avec Moi’ was conceived by the same designer duo to Kos. A coming trend: sanitary fixtures in two colours: white inside and black outside. • At Batimat, 4790 Jean-Talon West, Montréal 514 735 5747 batimat.net

04 “We no longer consider the bathroom as separate and isolated, but rather as an unpartitioned space, open and comfortable,” such is the vision statement of the German manufacturer Duravit. Duravit’s ‘2nd Floor’ collection designed in collaboration with Sieger Design has garnered such prizes as the IF Product Design Award and the Good Design Award. • Distributed by PPP Distribution 450 581 9780

The bathroom takes on the air of a library in the ‘Materia’ collection, modules enclosing wooden storage drawers and pigeon-holes. (The Antoniolupi catalog features a bathtub called ‘Biblio’ for the storage spaces created in the unit itself!). The bathtub model shown here, the ‘Baia’ is made of a composite material called Cristalplant.• Exclusively at Blan, 5324 Royalmount, Montréal 514 737 6700 blandemontreal.ca

Freestanding ovoid-shaped bathtubs are in favour at the moment. Featured here from the English manufacturer, Victoria + Albert, is called Barcelona. Its dimensions are generous with a capacity to match: 350 liters. Sinks of the same line, as well as matching faucets are available. • At Batimat, 4790 Jean-Talon West, Montréal 514 735 5747 batimat.net
