Or a little black dress reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn\u2019s look in Breakfast at Tiffany\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe wanted to achieve the sophistication of a New York City apartment with the added bonus of being surrounded by trees,\u201d says the owner. The condo, nestled in a stately building dating back to the 1980s, has unobstructed views to architectural gems and majestic parks. \u201cAs we\u2019re on the 9th floor, we\u2019re not looking down at grey rooftops, we\u2019re looking straight out at the spectacular view. We\u2019re lucky to have three balconies from which to enjoy it from every angle,\u201d adds the owner.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The kitchen is a highly efficient, streamlined work area complete with two floor-to-ceiling pantries and several cubbies to store small appliances.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The interior was entirely reconfigured to reflect the couple\u2019s artistic sensibility. Ceilings were raised and the space was opened up to \u201cbreathe\u201d like a gallery. \u201cThe owners have a fantastic art collection. It was important to showcase the works in the most flattering light,\u201d explains Yetman. In the living room, floor-to-ceiling mirrored recesses envelop sculptures while giving an illusion of continuum of space. The recesses bookend a dark niche that creates a dramatic backdrop for an abstract assemblage. \u201cWe needed a focal point that draws the eye in, like a fireplace would,\u201d adds Yetman.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cScott is a master at configuring space,\u201d declares the owner. \u201cNot only was he able to incorporate niches in several rooms so we could be surrounded by the things we love\u2014books and art\u2014we also have lots of storage space.\u201d The kitchen is a highly efficient, streamlined work area complete with two floor-to-ceiling pantries and several cubbies to store small appliances. A sliding panel allows the area to be closed off when entertaining.<\/p>\n<p>With all non essential items hidden from view, the resulting environment is sleek, uncluttered, and calming. Balance is achieved through symmetry, complementary textures and motifs, and a duochromatic scheme. The owner recounts, \u201cWhen Scott asked me what my favorite colour was, I immediately said \u2018black\u2019. To that, Scott responded that his is \u2018OC-17\u2019. Black and white&#8230; a perfect match!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The black and white palette allows the eye to be drawn to the vibrant pops of colour provided by foliage outside, and art inside. One of the most striking features is the powder room, a jaw-dropping jewel that shines like a star-studded night sky. \u201cIt\u2019s definitely a conversation piece!\u201d says the owner between laughs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWorking with Scott and our contractor, Bellevue, was a true collaboration. Together, we built the home my husband and I had envisioned: modern but not sterile, contemporary yet warm and welcoming. It\u2019s wonderful to host friends and family here.\u201d Yetman echoes the owner\u2019s enthusiasm: \u201cIt\u2019s a pleasure to work with design-savvy clients who can truly be a part of the process.
