In a rapidly changing industry, some clinics choose to keep pace with the times. Others help redefine them. This is the case with Med2 and Med2Jr, founded by Dr. Elyssa Elman and Dr. Sheldon Elman, a father-daughter duo driven by the shared conviction that medicine must remain deeply human, while leveraging the best innovations to serve patients better.
Sheldon’s calling to medicine dates back to his childhood. Raised by his grandmother while his immigrant parents worked, he was already dreaming of caring for others. This passion led him to build one of the largest preventive medicine companies in North America. In 1987, he founded Medisys, a model that was ahead of its time, focusing on prevention and the early detection of health issues.

His daughter Elyssa has shared this same passion since she was very young. As a child, she would accompany her father on his rounds at the hospital, showing a keen interest in family medicine and the special relationships it allows one to build with patients. “What I love most is the relationship of trust. We support patients through every stage of their lives,” she emphasizes.
After the sale of Medisys to TELUS Health in 2018 and several investments in innovative companies in digital health and artificial intelligence, Sheldon wanted to return to clinical practice. In 2022, father and daughter combined their expertise to launch Med2, a clinic built on four core principles: availability, approachability, expertise, and accountability. Their mantra: to provide personalized care in an environment where every patient is known by name, history, and needs. This philosophy also extends to Med2Jr, the sister clinic dedicated to pediatric health.
While Med2’s approach remains deeply human-centred, it also relies on cutting-edge technologies designed to improve access to care and enhance the patient experience. Counting some of the first physicians to adopt Nonagon’s N9+ system, the Med2 team is actively involved in its clinical rollout to bring care even closer to patients. This vision is now taking shape with the integration of this next-generation telehealth device, a tool already transforming remote consultations.
Approved by Health Canada and cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the N9+ combines nine connected medical tools that enable various examinations to be performed at home. Featuring a digital otoscope for examining the ears, a highdefinition throat camera, a connected stethoscope for listening to the heart and lungs, and an oxygen saturation sensor, the system enables doctors to obtain accurate clinical data, just as if they were in the same room as their patient. “It’s a bit like having a doctor at home,” explains Sheldon.

The digital platform guides users step by step to ensure quality examinations. The data is then securely transmitted to the medical team, which can analyze the results, follow up, and intervene quickly if necessary. “The impact is particularly significant for families living in remote areas or in certain Indigenous communities, where access to specialized care is sometimes limited,” explains Elyssa. This combined with KixCare an affiliated company, provides virtual telemedicine 24/7 both in Canada and when travelling anywhere in the world.
For the father-daughter duo, the future of healthcare lies not in technology alone, but in how thoughtfully it is used. “Innovation has value only when it truly improves the patient experience,” concludes Sheldon. “Our mission is to combine the best of medicine and technology to provide care that is more accessible, more preventive, and above all, more human.”
