LISE WATIER IS NOT ONLY A GROUND-BREAKING BUSINESS WOMAN FROM QUEBEC WHO FOUNDED A WORLD-FAMOUS COMPANY, SHE IS ALSO A MAGNIFICENT ROLE MODEL, SHOWING SOLIDARITY WITH THE WOMEN WHO HELPED GET HER WHERE SHE IS TODAY.
It’s not much of a stretch from Lise Watier’s own story to that of the foundation she established after selling her company. Born into quite modest means, Watier attributes a large part of her success to having grown up in a warm, loving family that valued her education and growth. This is no doubt why the Lise Watier Foundation specifically targets women seeking durable financial independence.
Through its innovative program, S’entreprendre, the Lise Watier Foundation plays a unique philanthropic role by addressing and actively supporting women who are ready to be financially independent, but who do not have all of the resources they need. Among the services provided to the women in the program is ongoing support and advice from a circle of multidisciplinary counsellors.
The Foundation is run by one of Watier’s daughters, Marie-Lise Andrade, who inherited her mother’s vivacious spirit and contagious energy. Andrade helps inject the organization with the positive attitude that helps women take full charge of their lives.
SINCE IT WAS ESTABLISHED, THE FOUNDATION HAS DONATED MORE THAN $3.5 MILLION AND ASSISTED OVER 3,000 WOMEN.
Most of the women in the program have the profile of an entrepreneur. “Transforming that spark into a viable project makes all the difference for these women, who are seeking a flexible way of life that can help make their families more financially secure (many are single parents). It’s a winwin model that benefits the individual women, and society as a whole,” says Andrade.
The success of S’Entreprendre is based on key partnerships with organizations already in place (like Centre Étape, Fonds d’emprunt, and Women’s Y Foundation). Someone from the foundation is on hand at each of these organizations; it’s a collaborative approach that helps identify women who are ready to achieve their full potential, and avoids doubling up on services.
Since it was established, the foundation has donated more than $3.5 million and assisted over 3,000 women. Its goal is to support 500 women annually. The foundation’s annual fundraising ball is a huge event on our social calendar. This year’s ball will be held on October 11. Mark your calendars!
