One hundred years ago, Griffintown was the most industrialized district in Canada. Today, it has evolved to become one of the trendiest neighbourhoods in Montreal. Once the home of abandoned factories and dilapidated housing, in recent years, hip shops and neighbourhood restaurants have sprung up. Famous chefs are hanging out their shingle, condos are sprouting like mushrooms and locals are quick to jump on the furniture offerings from ultra chic design shops. Known for its quality of life, and for its proximity to downtown and the iconic Atwater Market near the Lachine Canal, Griffintown begs to be explored. Hidden among the many varied shops are historic and mythical places. Griffintown is a thriving neighbourhood, enjoying booming real estate, whose shops and restaurants give nothing away to the Plateau. Here’s how to reinvent a neighbourhood to make you salivate.

My personal faves: the Kale salad; the Bol fermier, seasonal crunchy vegetables, nuts and feta; and the Huevos rancheros, corn tortillas, chorizo and avocados served in a cast iron skillet. I have to stop talking, as I’m still licking my lips!

In Montreal, there are gifted people with an abundance of talent. Enter Dyan Solomon and Eric Girard who have reinvented an old concept: rustic open-fire cuisine. Grilled market meat combined with a ton of vegetables. After the success of their famous resto, Olive and Gourmando, the duo pivoted to a down-home cuisine, opening Foxy, offering seasonal and rustic dishes. Flavourful ingredients, impeccable service, and a weakness for the bartender who serves delicious homemade cocktails. In short, everything is exquisite.
