Valmont is a venerable brand, with roots in Swiss medicine and a reputation for unostentatious luxury. That quality and tradition can now be experienced in a remarkable lounge in Old Montreal.

The Valmont – Art & Beauty Lounge is the newest opening from the Valmont brand, whose notable history began in 1905, when Clinique Valmont first opened in Montreux, Switzerland. Celebrated poet, Rainer Maria Rilke, actress Ingrid Bergman and fashion icon Coco Chanel were among some of the first illustrious guests who came for hydrotherapy and other treatments.

In the 1980s, the clinic positioned itself more as a “clinic-hotel” dedicated entirely to health and well-being. It was an innovative concept that included sophisticated skin care and rejuvenation techniques. Working with active molecules, Valmont cosmetologists helped develop the field of cellular cosmetics, which enhances the skin from within.

The Valmont brand as it is known today is the brainchild of a visionary couple: Didier Guillon and Sophie Vann-Guillon. When we met her in Athens, Sophie, who has worked for Balmain, Oscar de la Renta and Yves Saint-Laurent, told us of how well she and Didier work together: “Didier knows how to make the brand prosper with innovative and sometimes quirky ideas. I use my intuition to bring those ideas to life, and make them easily accessible. I always seem to sense what’s coming next.” Valmont is famous for products that target the visible signs of aging. Always pushing the envelope of medical science and skin care, their products incorporate active ingredients that affect skin cell renewal, mineral-rich glacial spring water—even DNA from the milt of wild Canadian salmon. This creative process and quest for beauty goes well with the mission of the Valmont Foundation, which promotes art and mounts exhibitions around the globe.

The couple have three children, but the Valmont family has grown to establish a presence in 45 countries in a variety of niche destinations: luxury institutes and 4- and 5-star hotel spas––including one in Montreal—where members enjoy anti-ageing treatments for face and body with products whose very names evoke their hydrating origins, all in the setting of a peaceful urban oasis. “Increasingly, our products combine pleasure and sensuality with ultra-technical formulas,” adds Vann-Guillon. Elite, Diamond and Platinum members now have nothing to envy from their European and Asian counterparts when it comes to the very best in skin care, anywhere in the world.
