Resulting from a successful collaboration between architects, designers, and homeowners, this meticulously organized house balances intimacy and conviviality in settings that are both contemporary and timeless.
A redesign took this home in Mirabel, built on a plot with mature trees, from a standard layout to extraordinary, meeting both the current and future needs of the owners. The concept was to build a house for long-term family living while also ensuring it would fit the couple’s lifestyle once the children moved out and eventually returned with their own families. “It was important to plan for space for everyone while maintaining comfort. This is truly a lifetime home,” emphasizes the homeowner, who, along with her partner, wanted to create their ideal residence for the long run.
The project began in 2020, and the couple immediately appreciated the approach of the interior design firm Entre Quatre Murs, which provided them with an in-depth questionnaire to kick-start a thorough and impressive process. The clever design leverages the site’s topography to create fluid and interconnected spaces across three levels that serve different functions to maintain privacy while fostering togetherness. The children’s suites are positioned at opposite ends of the basement, with the central section serving as a recreational area. The ground floor, a space for conviviality and sharing, opens entirely onto the courtyard and connects all common reception areas. It also houses a gym, a service area, and a semi-open office that’s slightly set apart to ensure tranquility. The upper floor is for the parents, whose mezzanine bedroom features generous windows to let the natural light flood in. Integrated blinds ensure privacy as needed.
This house embodies an elegant and durable living space, perfectly aligned with the aspirations of its occupants and in harmony with the exceptional natural surroundings.
It was important to maximize brightness and the view by opting for expansive windows. The interior configuration, including the architectural staircase, further enhance light flow and showcase the ever-changing outdoor scenery. This effect is particularly striking when walking through the glass-framed corridor leading to a unique exhibition room, where an exceptional car is always on display. At nightfall, strategically placed lighting takes over, highlighting key elements of the property.
This project also prioritized storage, as the homeowners consider themselves organization enthusiasts, thereby ensuring everything has its place. Each room is fitted with custom-made furniture to maintain a pristine and soothing atmosphere. Finally, to imbue the space with a warm yet understated elegance, the space features wood throughout, stone reminiscent of the exterior cladding, and textured finishes such as vertical wood panelling, openwork doors, herringbone parquet, and ceramic tiles.
