SLEEP QUALITY CORRELATES TO MATTRESS QUALITY, WHICH MEANS YOU’LL GET THE BEST OF BOTH WITH A BESPOKE MATTRESS BY VISPRING. THE COMPANY’S REPUTATION FOR OUTSTANDING CRAFTSMANSHIP WON THEM THE HIGHEST UK AWARD FOR BUSINESS IN 2012: THE QUEEN’S AWARD FOR ENTERPRISE.
Necessity is indeed the mother of some of the finest inventions. Canadian engineer James Marshall just wanted to provide some comfort and relief for his bed-ridden wife when he built the first mattress with steel springs enclosed in individual pockets (the pocket coil spring). The idea sparked John Nolon and Frederick James to promote the mattress in Great Britain, where they founded Vispring in 1901. Since then, the brand has been refining the concept and building on a tradition that is now more than a century old.
Sleep is a natural and necessary part of life, yet the slightest detail can disturb a whole night, and wipe out the benefits completely. This is why Vispring takes such care with every component. In fact, they’re the only mattress manufacturer that makes its own springs in-house … in 58 different types and gauges! Composed of super-strong Vanadium steel, the springs come in a variety of tensions to provide soft, medium, firm or extra-firm support. Each one is individually encased—by hand—in a natural cotton calico pocket, and the final honeycomb design ensures constant support. Six stabilizing lateral seams, hand-sewn into the sides of each mattress, extend the product’s life without affecting the flexibility of the springs.
Of course, only the finest natural fibres go into each mattress. There’s South African mohair to keep you cool in summer and warm in winter; Chinese cashmere, which is eight times warmer than sheep’s wool and so much lighter; Austrian horsehair, which is both soft and durable; soft, absorbent Chinese bamboo; long-fibre Turkish cotton, renowned for millennia; rare, sensual Chinese silk; and Shetland wool, known for its hypoallergenic qualities and breathability, from sheep raised in the ancient traditional way. And finally, lest we forget Peruvian vicuña, one of the world’s most expensive and luxurious wools, lanolinfree, hypoallergenic and incredibly insulating. Everything is arranged in a specific order, enclosed in the cover, and tufted by hand.
Further distinguishing Vispring (found exclusively at Design Louis George) from the competition is the company’s dedication to the environment and authentic concern for employee well-being. Britain’s highest business award goes only to royal suppliers who are able to maintain the pristine standards of craftsmanship, while respecting human and natural resources. That means you can put your mind to rest while you sleep like a prince!
