Original title : Alexa Hampton – A colourful signature
The exceptionally talented Alexa Hampton reinvents classics by playing with colour. Meet an internationally acclaimed designer who takes inspiration from history.
Alexa Hampton has run the company founded by her late father Mark Hampton for over twenty years. With her distinct penchant for colour and astonishing ability to elevate and reimagine classic furniture and objects, the designer has taken the family business to the global stage. Her designs dazzle with bold choices, from the smallest detail to patterns and hues, but come together to create extraordinarily consistent ensembles that complement their environments.
By immersing herself in the country or region where she is working, Hampton champions the best of local culture and tradition. Her projects can run the gamut from an urban penthouse to a Louisiana villa, and she confers a unique character to every interior that she designs—even yachts and private planes!
Continuing her partnership with legendary manufacturer designer Theodore Alexander, she is bringing out a brand-new collection of sofas, armchairs, and tables, now available at Design Louis George. The high-end, handcrafted pieces combine Hampton’s distinctive style with the enduring
expertise of Theodore Alexander, a brand that can work with anything—no material is off bounds, no finishing too complicated. Alexa Hampton recognizes and appreciates the company’s unmatched quality work.
Also the author of interior decoration books and a driving force in the world of design, she has said, “Design is always about individual vision and collaboration, partnership.”
Regularly included on Architectural Digest’s famous AD100 list, House Beautiful’s list of “America’s Best Designers,” and Elle Décor’s A-List, Hampton graduated with honours from Brown University, did graduate work at New York University’s Institute of Fine Arts, and has received honorary doctorates from the Moore College of Art & Design and the New York School of Interior Design. The recipient of numerous excellence awards, she was named one of twelve “Fun, Fearless Females” by Cosmopolitan magazine and given the Design Innovator Award from Connecticut Cottage & Gardens.
Showing unconditional respect for architectural heritage and ancestral works, she updates them to better meet the demands of modern living. At the same time, she is committed to the future and sits on the board of trustees for the New York School of Interior Design and the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art.
